Synopsis: At some point in most public works/fleet administrator's career, there is a good chance that they will be involved in the planning and/or design of a new facility. It could be one building within a larger municipal complex, or the entire complex itself. This presentation identifies the key factors to consider during the design of such a project.

This presentation, which is new in 1999, highlights the "rules" for Facility Design: Rules of Thumb; Rules of Reality; Rules of the Roost; Rules of the Oil Game - Slick Ideas, and Rules of the Road. These rules cover such information as space ratios, costs per acre, building codes and compliance issues, facility amenities that make a difference, specific design issues that make the difference between a facility that works and one that doesn't.
